You're looking at a seriously rare stunner of a mid-century Murano glass fish that I am 99.9% sure was produced by Aureliano Toso (and designed by Dino Martens). The interior of the fish seems to be composed of a coiled glass tube beginning in cranberry at the tail, blending into a gold/orange, encrusted throughout in gold aventurine and encased in a thick layer of crystal. The fish body rests on a very uncommon crystal base, which was quite helpful in my sleuthing as the ONLY OTHER Murano glass fish or bird I saw with this base had an Aureliano Toso label (see photos 7&8). The last bits of evidence (photos 9&10) were obtained by scouring "Dino Martens" by Marc Heiremans. The detail of the fish cannot be determined by the catalog drawing but certainly, the matching bases are non-controversial.
This rare miraculous piece is in perfect condition SAVE for the sharp edges at the end of the bottom fin which MAY be the result of a production error (failure to shape and polish the tips). Breakage seems inconceivable as the tips aren't aligned, and there are no other sharp edges or damage on the entire piece (e.g. it's impossible to imagine what kind of fall could have resulted in this type of damage). Anyway, I never noticed until my fingers felt the sharpness so you might find it irrelevant to this masterpiece as well.
