This spectacular undulating conch shell DESIGN was designed by Flavio Poli for Seguso Vetri d'Arte (as documented by Marc Heiremans in his Seguso Vetri d'Arte book) and the identical piece (down to the remnants of velvet pads on the base) is currently on sale on 1stDibs--by one of the very few online Murano glass dealers I know to be extremely knowledgable and trustworthy--as a mid-century Archimede Seguso production of the earlier Poli design. STILL, I have my doubts. Formia (1962-2016) has produced many pieces that are mistaken as Segusos, and is one of only two furnaces I can actually prove produced in this dramatic sommerso-over-black with silver flecks motif with labels or signatures (the other is Gambaro Poggi ).
Regardless, this is a very beautiful piece made with exquisite craftmanship, and the way it plays with the light makes it more difficult to capture in a mere photo. The shell's interior is done in a thick opaque black, the outside flecked with patterned silver foil, and then the exterior of the piece is encased in thick clear sommerso. It is in perfect condition.
