Winslow Anderson's #920 decanter, introduced in Blenko's 1949 catalog and produced through 1965 (not counting a few periodic re-issues in the 2000s that never seem to have the same fluidity and grace), is one of Blenko's most iconic glass designs and symbolizes like perhaps no other, the clean sweeping lines of the mid-century modern design ethic. Ours is the 920L--the large 22" tall version (except ours is 23" tall), and it's a real beauty! I was initially torn as to whether this color was honey (1965-1968) or amber (which would date this decanter between 1949 and 1956)--the silver foil Blenko sticker (most of which remains on the bottle) was used throughout both periods. Blenko's amber often has an almost greenish cast to it--this color shares the deep warm orangey undertones of my other honeys, so I'm pretty confident of my color attribution.
The piece has a few small bubbles and significant base wear, and while it's probably held liquid at some point, the color and clarity are extraordinary, and the bottle's lines and the sheer perfection of the stopper make this a very special example of Blenko at its best.
