MONUMENTAL C.1960s MURANO Sommerso Cranberry Purple Glass Love Birds

$760.00

Behold these monumental and MAGNIFICENT mid-century Murano glass birds in a devastatingly gorgeous purple and cranberry sommerso with gold-flecked beaks and crowns on crystal triangular stands. I purchased these exquisite creatures about 15 years ago and have only come across one or two like them since--unsigned and NONE with labels! But, put a gun to my head and I'll attribute these beauties to Licio Zanetti, simply because the few glass Murano animals I've EVER seen with this same triangular crystal base (or a similarly shaped quadruple point base) were signed by Licio Zanetti.

The business model for Murano glass producers hasn't changed much over the years... Young firms without an established brand and hungry for orders who's only access to end users is through retailers will manufacture the RETAILER'S most popular designs. Check out the major online shops selling NEW Murano glass -- with few exceptions involving big name talent, you'll have to dig deep to discover what firm produced any given piece being sold if you can at all. Moreover, I've seen recognizable designs associated with contemporary companies (like Formia, OBall, Zanetti, Campanella, etc.) turn out to have been produced by newer (and presumably cheaper) Murano glass blowers I never heard of before.

In short, while most known Zanetti works are indeed signed, it stands to reason that the early Zanettis (the company was formed in 1956) helped make payroll by filling orders for glass importers and retailers who themselves branded the merchandise.

DIMENSIONS: ~ 16.25" tall x 10.5" wide, 5" deep; 16" tall, 8.5" wide, 4.5" deep (at base)
CONDITION: Excellent Vintage Condition; practically perfect except that one of the points on the crystal stand of the smaller bird has chipped off. As the photos clearly show, this is irrelevant to the sheer wonder of these pieces!

Frequently Asked Questions

Custom and personalized orders

GLASSpheme loves custom orders! But how do we 'customize' vintage glass? Simple. We love glass and we love our customers--and there are many ways we can help!

1) Volume discounts: Let's say there are several pieces you MUST have. Let me know, and I'll send you our very best price for the lot.

2) Custom displays: Say you have a special place in your home that SCREAMS for a glass display. Send me a photo of the space, your budget, and the accent colors for your room, and we'll send you photographs of possible groupings and our special pricing for the lot.

3) Tell us what groupings you have in mind, and we'll photograph them together for you so you can see how they'll look together.

Gift wrapping and packaging

What could be better than giving a gorgeous piece of vintage glass as a gift? (Aside from getting one, that is.) Glass is beautiful and functional--mostly! Consider a super mod biomorphic bowl or cased glass jar for a vanity or dresser, a platter/centerpiece for fruit on a countertop, or a vase for cut flowers. Not only does vintage glass bring exquisite delight to the most mundane of household functions (you should see our soap dishes), but our beauties increase in value over time. Send us a note telling us your purchase is a gift, and we will send it along with your personalized gift card, colorful tissue paper and a bow. (You alone will receive the receipt by email.)

Can I Select Custom Arrival Dates?

GLASSpheme ships your purchase on the very next business day, but we're flexible too! If you're going away on vacation or have a special date you'd like your gift to arrive, send us a note, and we'll time our shipping for you!

How can I get coupons for your shop and be informed of sales?

Simple! Join the GLASSpheme mailing list! Paste this link in your browser, send us your email address, and VOILA--you'll be among the first to know when your favorite piece of glass is on sale, or when we're offering coupons.
