First designed by Carlo Scarpa in the mid-1930s, Venini's "CINESI" series has been periodically produced throughout the 20th century. Scarpa's original intent was to recreate the simple shape and opacity of Chinese celedon porcelain vases in glass. From Venini: "“Chinese” was the definition attributed to a series of incamiciati (sleeved) glass vases and bowls, with forms drawn from the Oriental porcelain much appreciated by Scarpa. Some of these brightly coloured glass items were exhibited at the 22nd Venice Biennale, and because of their elegant features met with great success. The use of the incamiciatura technique, in which various differently-coloured glass layers were superimposed, enabled the craftsmen to create thin and strikingly-coloured objects."
Striking, indeed. This is no ordinary piece of 'cased glass' as many sheets are fused together to create a seamless opaque look. 2) Custom displays: Say you have a special place in your home that SCREAMS for a glass display. Send me a photo of the space, your budget, and the accent colors for your room, and we'll send you photographs of possible groupings and our special pricing for the lot.
3) Tell us what groupings you have in mind, and we'll photograph them together for you so you can see how they'll look together.
