EXQUISITE 13" Pair of C.1920s BAROVIER TOSO Murano Art Deco Incamiciato Glass Vases

$700.00

Leslie Pina attributed this sublime set of early 20th century 'incamiciato' vases to Barovier Toso ("Italian Glass: 20th Century"), but I've also seen this design attributed to Salviati. It turns out that both attributions are likely correct! An article in the Journal of Antiques (http://www.journalofantiques.com/featureapr01.htm) shows what clearly seems to be an early incarnation of this design marketed by Salviati but designed and blown by the Artisti Barovier. Later, in late 1919, after the liquidation of Artisti Barovier, the Baroviers teamed with other master glassblowers to form Veteria Artistica Barovier & Co. Salviati & Co., EXCLUSIVELY A RETAIL OPERATION then, was one of their most important clients. Moreover, when Saliviati restarted glass production in 1931, Napoleone Barovier signed on as their master glass blower. (The Great Depression created great economic hardship in the Venetian glass industry and with Veteria Artistica Barovier & Co. down to one furnace, the partners sought to supplement their income elsewhere as well.)

In short, these magnificent works of art were probably produced by Barovier between 1919 and 1931 and marketed and sold under the Salviati name.

Look closely at the craftsmanship of these extraordinary pieces. The "incamiciato" technique adds the thinnest layer of translulent glass over a fine lattimo (milk glass) base to create a light almost luminescent effect. The vases' base and folded rims give a better sense of their exquisitely delicate construction.

DIMENSIONS: 13" tall, 4.5" widest diameter
CONDITION: Minty (a few light scratches perhaps but extraordinary condition for Murano glass nearly a century old)

Frequently Asked Questions

Custom and personalized orders

GLASSpheme loves custom orders! But how do we 'customize' vintage glass? Simple. We love glass and we love our customers--and there are many ways we can help!

1) Volume discounts: Let's say there are several pieces you MUST have. Let me know, and I'll send you our very best price for the lot.

2) Custom displays: Say you have a special place in your home that SCREAMS for a glass display. Send me a photo of the space, your budget, and the accent colors for your room, and we'll send you photographs of possible groupings and our special pricing for the lot.

3) Tell us what groupings you have in mind, and we'll photograph them together for you so you can see how they'll look together.

Gift wrapping and packaging

What could be better than giving a gorgeous piece of vintage glass as a gift? (Aside from getting one, that is.) Glass is beautiful and functional--mostly! Consider a super mod biomorphic bowl or cased glass jar for a vanity or dresser, a platter/centerpiece for fruit on a countertop, or a vase for cut flowers. Not only does vintage glass bring exquisite delight to the most mundane of household functions (you should see our soap dishes), but our beauties increase in value over time. Send us a note telling us your purchase is a gift, and we will send it along with your personalized gift card, colorful tissue paper and a bow. (You alone will receive the receipt by email.)

Can I Select Custom Arrival Dates?

GLASSpheme ships your purchase on the very next business day, but we're flexible too! If you're going away on vacation or have a special date you'd like your gift to arrive, send us a note, and we'll time our shipping for you!

How can I get coupons for your shop and be informed of sales?

Simple! Join the GLASSpheme mailing list! Paste this link in your browser, send us your email address, and VOILA--you'll be among the first to know when your favorite piece of glass is on sale, or when we're offering coupons.
